Why you should Spay/Neuter your pet.
Right now in America there are many, many more dogs and cats in need of good homes then there are people willing to take them in. This problem could be remedied if more people would spay and/or neuter there pets. Here are just a few reasons to spay and neuter. Intact animals are more likely to wander from home in search of females in heat. Wandering increases their chance of being hit by a car. They are also more likely to get into fights over females or territory. This can lead to expensive vet bills or even a lawsuit if your pet were to injure or kill another persons pet. Intact animals are far more likely to mark their territory by spraying urine. They do not discriminate between the tree in the yard and your sofa. Intact animals tend to have more pungent urine than altered pets. Once pet urine is in your carpeting it is very difficult to remove the smell. Getting your female pet spayed can increase her life span and can help prevent several different kinds of cancer including breast and ovarian cancer. Many people have the mistaken belief that allowing their pet to have just one litter of puppies or kittens makes them better, calmer, happier pets. This is not true. What they don't always think about is how the stress of being pregnant and giving birth effects the mothers body. Also what is going to happen to those puppies or kittens once they have been weened? Each year approximately 25 million dogs and cats are euthanized in the U.S. Alone. Many of these are unwanted puppies and kittens. Even if the pet owner manages to find homes for every puppy or kitten there pet produced that is one less home available for an animal in a shelter. These are just some of the reasons getting your animals spayed and neutered is a good idea. For more information contact your local veterinarian.
